Cronobacter condimenti sp. nov., isolated from spiced meat, and Cronobacter universalis sp. nov., a species designation for Cronobacter sp. genomospecies 1, recovered from a leg infection, water and food ingredients

Abstract: A re-evaluation of the taxonomic position of five strains, one assigned to Cronobacter sakazakii (strain 1330T, isolated from spiced meat purchased in Slovakia), two previously assigned to Cronobacter genomospecies 1 (strains NCTC 9529T and 731, isolated from water and a leg infection, respectively) and two previously assigned to … Show more

“…lausannensis, C. malonaticus, C. muytjensii, C. turicensis and the unnamed genotype species I. Thereafter, C. condimenti and C. univeralis were added in 2012 Joseph et al, 2012, and C. helventicus, C. pulveris and C. zurichensis were added in 2013Brady el al., 2013 . The natural habitat of these bacteria is unknown, but the various growth properties suggests that Cronobacter spp.…”

“…63 Pertinent to this, is the recognition of bacterial 31 colonisation of the nasogastric enteral feeding tube, and the isolation of C. sakazakii from tubes from 32 neonates feed breast milk, and (sterile) ready to feed formula. Breast milk can contain the bacterium, 33 and the C. malonaticus type strain (LMG 23826 T ) was isolated from a breast abscess.…”

“…In a study by Stoop et al (2009), an rpoB-genetargeted PCR assay was developed, which enables the identification of members of the genus Cronobacter to the species level. In a recent study by Joseph et al (2012) an additional species, C. condimenti, was described within the genus Cronobacter, and a novel species designation, C. universalis, was proposed for the formerly named Cronobacter sp.genomospecies 1. However, as of yet, no species-specific identification systems are available for C. condimenti.…”
