Crohn's disease discovered by colon adenocarcinoma

Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignancy and fourth leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. 1,2 Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is widely accepted as one of the important risk factors leading to colorectal cancer (CRC). IBD ranks as the third highest risk condition for CRC. 3 In this group of patients the incidence of CRC increases by 60% compared to that of the general population. 4 However; it is unusual to discover Crohn's disease after the development of cancer. We present a case of Crohn's disease discovered in a follow-up of ileocolic adenocarcinoma.
