Critically ill patients: histopathological evidence of thyroid dysfunction

Abstract: Background: Critical illness is characterized by severe biphasic physical and metabolic stress as a result of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and is frequently associated with non-thyroidal illness.
