Criticality assessment of the barriers to Lean Construction

Abstract: PurposeThe purpose of this study seeks to identify the critical barriers for the deployment of Lean Construction (LC).Design/methodology/approachIn order to identify the barriers of Lean Construction, a systematic review of the scientific literature was carried out, in addition to analysis of the content of papers presented at a major Lean Construction conference. After the barriers were identified, a Lawshe study was conducted with experts in Lean Construction to verify the criticality of each of the barriers… Show more

“…The drivers can promote while barriers can obstruct a new initiative. Despite seminal studies on potential drivers and barriers on other topics, for example, green supply chain management (GSM) (Mathiyazhagan et al , 2013), SC resilience (Ali et al , 2017), lean manufacturing (Ramadas and Satish, 2018; Mano et al , 2020), collaboration (Kumar and Goswami, 2019) and household solar adoption (Parsad et al , 2020), the research on perceived drivers of and barriers to implement supply chain 4.0 is under-developed.…”

“…A summary of the barriers to LC is presented in Table 1. Such barriers were identified in the research by Mano et al (2020) from a content analysis and then had their content validity Barriers to lean construction verified through the Lawshe validation technique, which consists of evaluating the agreement among judges on the importance of a particular item.…”

“…Faced with the possibility of gains from the LC, its concepts and techniques have increasingly spread among civil construction companies; however, authors such as Moyo and Chigara, 2021; Mano et al (2020), Ahmed and Wong (2020); Bajjou and Chafi (2018), Albalkhy and Sweis (2021) warn of the increase in cases of failure to implement the LC because there are many barriers that make this process difficult, in Section 2.2 a set of barriers that emerged from the literature review are presented.…”
