This study aimed to analyze the structure of the text in the news texts of tempo.com entitled “Tolak Relokasi Ibu Kota,” published in 2019, in which it highlighted the government’s plan to relocate the capital city of Indonesia. The descriptive qualitative model was used by adapting van Dijk’s approach. The data were analyzed only in terms of the structure of text on online media tempo.com and with the orientation of the descriptive-analytic method. The data of this study were presented qualitatively. The results showed that the journalists of tempo.com media built public opinion in the news negatively. The journalists utilized selected diction, cause-effect organization, and selected speaker’s indirect quotations to produce news texts. Besides, the news was considered in harmony with its mission of providing a multimedia product independent and free from all pressures. The readers were led to a negative image of the government on tempo.com as an active and existent media in voicing justice.

Tempo.co as well-known mass media in Indonesia gains tremendous attention from public reader concerning Covid-19 pandemic. The influential news that it produced has discursive dimension that can be analyzed by Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). This study is a textual analysis that uses CDA theory with purposive sampling from tempo.co news as the data. In this study, it can be found that Tempo.co portray this media as a ‘watchdog’ that serves to supervise those who have a power within politics (government). Tempo’s newspaper produces text news that reflects to the government depiction in their policies. Thus, Tempo’s newspaper led the readers to give a positive image to Tempo.co as an active and existent media in serving the truth. Tempo.co try to gain the public trust to consume their news, then Tempo will get a high profit in it. Keywords: CDA; Ideology; Socio-culture; Mass Media

Critical discourse analysis examines the efforts of social forces and ideological interests of a group that are reproduced and defended through texts. The discussion is connected with social contexts that have specific purposes and assumptions. This study focuses on online news reported at liputan6.com site on May 11 th, 2016. This study’s method is a critical discourse analysis introduced by Norman Fairclough with the implementation of transitivity system as the data analysis theory. It aims to uncover the elements of social practice from the aspects of linguistic and discourse. The result indicates the existence of social practice from the online news site in processing information shapes the practice representation conducted by figures who act the discourse which can affect the views of people including their understanding and behavior in social life.
