“…There is also risk of nonresponse bias in NHANES, with more recent data release years having reportedly fewer college graduates and higher income individuals compared with earlier cycle years, which is not sufficiently mitigated with current weighting procedures. 45 , 46 Strengths include the large nationally representative sample size, careful in‐person data collection procedures used in NHANES, and 20 years of data, establishing a trend. Another strength includes controlling for age distributions and smoking status, which is important when investigating hypertension.…”

“…Data from cycle years 2019 to 2020 were not included in this study due to the increasing challenges with nonresponse bias and the likelihood that the COVID‐19 pandemic had an impact on the partial data collection for the 2019 to 2020 cycle. 45 , 46 Data were analyzed in 2‐year increments to observe trends in the prevalence of hypertension among MA adults and WA adults. Recognized risk factors for hypertension were also compared between the groups and included age, sex, smoking status, BMI, and abdominal obesity (via WHtR).…”

“…The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was designed by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) to assess the health and nutritional status of the U.S. deinstitutionalized population using a complex multi-stage cluster probability sampling design 15 . The survey protocol for data collection was authorized by the Ethical Review Board of the National Centre for Health Statistics, and all participants signed an informed consent form 16 .…”

“…The FCID provides recipes that disaggregate mixed dishes from national dietary surveys into commodity ingredients (agricultural products), which can then be linked to sustainability data from other databases ( Figure 1 ). Compared with other food and commodity composition databases, the data infrastructure of the FCID is more compatible with linkage to sustainability databases, is easier to maintain on a regular basis, and is the most commonly used for diet sustainability studies that use dietary data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), which is the richest source of nationally representative dietary data in the United States and is the principal source of information for developing nutrition policy [ 34 , 35 ]. However, the FCID has not been officially updated since 2010 which severely limits advancements in sustainability research that are needed to answer important policy questions.…”
