Critical Current and Its Magnetic Field Effect Measurement of HTS Tapes Forming DC Superconducting Cable

Abstract: We constructed a test stand of 20 m-class DC superconducting power transmission cable in Chubu University, in 2006. The cable consisted of thirty-nine Bi-2223 HTS tapes in two layers; nineteen tapes were used in the first layer and twenty tapes were used in the second layer. One of the features of the cable is that each HTS tape in the first layer is electrically isolated. Therefore, we can apply the current to the individual HTS tapes in the first layer. We measured critical current of the one HTS tape in the… Show more

“…Figure 1 compiles several superconducting cable trials in recent years in order to test the reliability of superconducting cables, mostly in power grids but also in traction networks [15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. According to our knowledge, Japan was the first country to have installed a superconducting cable in a railway network with a 31 m-long prototype tested at 10 V and a 310 m-long cable installed in Tokyo in 2016.…”

“…They are used in such fields as energy, electronics, etc. They are used to create motors and electric generators [1], power cables [2][3][4], current limiters for short circuits [5][6][7] and many others. It is known that the main parameters of superconductors are critical temperature (T c ), critical current (J c ) and critical magnetic field (H c ).…”
