“…This program is basically a massive CCTV security surveillance network integrated with other high-tech communication features enhancing police tracking capabilities, traffic control, and emergency call handling and dispatching. Police-monitored CCTV systems are a purposeful extension of the surveillance capacity of the police (Fondevila et al, 2021 ).…”

“…The only study we found examining whether distance to police stations correlates with residential burglary shows no significant correlation (Noh, 2019 ). However, one recent study on the deterrent effect of police stations on homicide, robbery and theft crimes in Buenos Aires show evidence of a geographic pattern of these crimes increasing in frequency around police stations until a certain distance when they begin to decrease once again, thus suggesting that distance to police stations impacts offenders´ rational choices (Fondevila et al, 2021 ). It must be considered that police stations are important not only for their symbolic potential deterrence effect but because their locations affects their response time to a crime location (Noh, 2019 ).…”

“…The analysis of police presence on crime using GIS tools is a promising innovation. For example, Fondevila et al (2021) rely on spatial data of criminal activity to model criminal behavior in the city of Buenos Aires. The authors found that police stations seem to "have a deterrent effect on crime", as crimes tended to increase exponentially as distance from the nearest police station up to 500-600 meters, past which it began to decrease again.…”

“…On the street segment level, the spatial patterns of these crime types exhibited spatial similarity. Other examples are the analysis of crime and crash data in order to define optimal patrol routes to reduce the total dispatch time (Kuo et al, 2013) or the application of spatial analysis techniques to analyse the crime deterrent effect of police stations (Fondevila et al, 2021). The space-time analysis techniques used in these studies are valuable, but the approach differs from what we want to achieve in this paper by focusing on CFS and priority codes.…”
