Abstract:Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) or Devic´s syndrome is an inflammatory, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system leading to optical neuritis and myelitis. Etiology of NMO is unknown, although autoimmune disorders involving IgG autoantibodies specific for aquaporin 4 are suspected.
