Crecimiento de juveniles de congrio colorado Genypterus chilensis en condiciones de cultivo

Abstract: RESUMEN. Show more

“…The red cusk-eel ( Genypterus chilensis ) is a new economically important marine species for the Chilean aquaculture industry [ 22 ], but low handling-stress tolerance results in high mortality rates during juvenile stages [ 23 ]. Handling-stress facilitates red cusk-eel skeletal muscle atrophy through the coordinated expression of components of the ubiquitin-proteasome and autophagy-lysosome systems, revealing particularities in the compensatory response to stress [ 24 ].…”

“…Regarding Genypterus chilensis, it is a coastal bathydemersal endemic species, and it is distributed from Africa (18 • 25 S) until Los Chonos Archipelago (47 • 70 S) at depths ranging from 20 m to 150 m [5]. It has a carnivorous diet, being their common preys, crustaceans of small size, and fish [6,7]. The fishery of Genypterus chilensis is mainly limited to the non-industrial activity [4], with annual captures between 400 to 900 tons in the last years [1].…”

“…In this work, viscera and liver from farmed salmon will be assessed as alternative sources of EPA and DHA together with viscera from wild red cusk‐eel ( Genipterus chilensis ) and yellowtail kingfish ( Seriola lalandi ), called “congrio colorado” and “palometa” in Chile, respectively. Although production of red cusk‐eel and yellowtail kingfish in Chile is much lower than that of salmon, with 636 and 372 Mt reported in 2014, respectively (SERNAPESCA), both species are commercially interesting: red cusk‐eel is a fish with a high demand in the Chilean market due to its exceptional flesh quality . Yellowtail kingfish is popular because of its firm, white, and slightly oily flesh, and it is widely used for sashimi preparation.…”
