Creation of topographic plans using unmanned aerial photography

Abstract: Program Agisoft Photoscan is a universal tool for generating 3D surface models of surveyed objects from photographic images of these objects. Photoscan is successfully used both for building models of objects and objects of different scales - from miniature archaeological artifacts to large buildings and structures, and for building terrain models based on aerial photography data and generating DEMs and orthomosaics based on these models . Data processing in Photoscan is extremely automated: the operator is en… Show more

“…Aral Sea -formerly closed salt lake in Central Asia , on the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan [5,6]. Since the 1960s, the sea level (and the volume of water in it) began to decline rapidly, including due to the withdrawal of water from the main feeding rivers of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya for irrigation purposes [7]; in 1989, the sea split into two reservoirs, connected by the now disappeared Berg Strait -Northern (Small) and Southern (Big) Aral Sea [8,9]. In 2014, the eastern part of the South (Great) Aral Sea completely dried up, reaching a historical minimum area of the entire sea in that year of 7297 km².…”

“…In Karakalpakstan, there are 938 cases of skin diseases per 10 thousand population, which is twice as much as in Uzbekistan as a whole. The Aral crisis has generated not only medical, but also social, economic, and everyday problems, the solution of which requires enormous costs [7][8][9][10].…”

“…But it became possible to obtain such a product only with the advent of unmanned aerial vehicles and corresponding software on the market, which can automatically create a digital orthomosaic and a three-dimensional terrain model [3,4]. The relevance of this topic lies in the fact that just a few years ago all topographic and geodetic organizations were working on creating so-called flat 2D maps using the analogue method, using universal stereo topographic instruments [5][6][7]. Now, in the age of digital technology, it is possible, having digital aerial cameras, unmanned aerial vehicles and accompanying software for processing unmanned aerial photography, digital photogrammetric stations, to create three-dimensional terrain models.…”
