Abstract:background
The benefits of ghost ileostomy (GI) in avoiding formal covering ileostomies in > 80% of cancer patients have been documented in numerous studies. However, none of the articles explained precisely how the GI tract was removed in the end in 80% of patients for whom formal maturation was not necessary.
