Creation of New Functions by Combination of Surfactant and Polymer - Complex Coacervation with Oppositely Charged Polymer and Surfactant for Shampoo and Body Wash -

Abstract: IntroductionThe combination of surfactants and polymers is a remarkably important way to create product functions in the field of personal care, like cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and foods, because it can take a variety of complex states which differ greatly in appearance and viscosity. In particular, attempts to mix anionic surfactants as detergent and

“…Polyelectrolyte surfactant complexes (PESCs) consisting of polyelectrolytes (PEs) and surfactants of opposite charge have attracted much interest , in the past decades because their extraordinary properties make them useful for numerous applications ranging from detergents, paints, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to biotechnology and waste water treatment. , Adsorption of oppositely charged surfactant molecules on the PE is strongly cooperative after initial noncooperative adsorption and occurs above the critical aggregation concentration (CAC), which is significantly lower than the critical micelle concentration of the pure surfactant solutions. ,,, Depending on the chemical nature of the PE and surfactant, the complexes can show a rich variety of morphologies . However, clear solutions are formed if a sufficiently large excess of either PE or surfactant is present, whereas macroscopic precipitates occur around charge equilibrium. Using double-hydrophilic block PEs (DHBE) with an additional nonionic block can prevent macroscopic precipitation of PESCs around charge equilibrium.…”

“…Eventually, further increases in surfactant concentration result in the dissolution of the coacervate. The dissolution and precipitation process has been used as a tool to enhance deposition of insoluble cationic polymers and anionic surfactant complexes onto hard surfaces (e.g., fabrics) . In this work, the behavior of solutions of modified HECs was explored by monitoring the changes in the transmitted light as a stock laundry detergent solution was titrated.…”

“…Bahan utama dalam formulasi sediaan body wash adalah air dan surfaktan yang digunakan untuk mengikat kotoran yang bersifat lipofilik dan menghasilkan busa [4,5,6]. Body wash yang baik bukan hanya efektif sebagai pembersih, namun juga tidak menyebabkan kulit kering, iritasi dan sebagainya [7].…”
