Creation of a Citygml-Based 3d City Model Testbed for Energy-Related Applications

Abstract: Abstract. This document introduces the process for the creation of a testbed for energy applications based on a semantic 3D city model for the municipality of Rijssen-Holten in The Netherlands. The creation of this dataset requires the consolidation from multiple data sources as well as a lot of manual work so the authors can warranty as much as possible the quality of the dataset so in can be used in several use cases. The data is stored following the OGC standard CityGML v2.0 and contain the geometrical and … Show more

“…Given the current results from this first set of first experiments, it is clear that more tests, especially with other UEM simulation tools, need to be carried out and compared. This is also the reason why the 3D city model of Rijssen-Holten is being prepared to be released as an open-data benchmark dataset (León Sánchez et al, 2022), in order to offer, also to other colleagues in the energy community, the possibility to test, compare and assess their tools in a more homogeneous way.…”

“…The use of 3D city models represents a strategic solution in many fields of research, for example, to study and monitor the urban environment for flood disaster prevention, where the three-dimensional flood simulation plays a key role in the decision-making process for the flood risk analysis [32]. For instance, the design and the construction of semantic 3D city models have been employed to provide an open dataset of attributes, semantics, and geometries as a testbed for several energy analysis cases [33]. Some experimentations testing the CityGML Conceptual Model have been carried out, also in the field of digital Cultural Heritage (CH) documentation, working with the challenge regarding the level of details to assess the constructive and semantic characteristics of CH sites [34].…”
