“…Even the Wt Ki-ras transfectants exhibiting no increased level of GTP-bound Ras showed an elevated activation of this pathway. As this pathway is important for the oncogenic transformation process, this result is consistent with the morphological changes of the Ki-ras transfectants expressing a transformed phenotype as demonstrated by the spindle-shaped structure [8]. Another characteristics of transformation is the anchorage-independent growth of the G12V Ki-Ras mutant, which might be due to either increased activated Ras-GTP levels or to a specific feature of the Ras codon 12 mutation.…”

“…This is in line with results of Guerrero and coworkers [29], demonstrating a higher predisposition of codon 12-mutated fibroblasts to anchorageindependent growth. Furthermore, Ki-ras is less potent in mediating transformation than Ha-ras in fibroblasts [45], which might be explained by the relative instability of the Ki-Ras 4B protein when compared to other Ras family members [8]. Although the oncogenic Ras protein exerts effects on the gene transcription level, the relationships between signaling pathways downstream of ras, the effects of different ras mutations on the regulated genes and their contributions to malignancy are, as yet, only poorly understood at the transcriptome level and even less is known at the proteome level.…”

“…From a theoretical perspective, it may be interesting to ask whether the late-time inhomogeneities can affect the evolution of average quantities through the 'backreaction mechanism' (e.g. Buchert 2000;Ellis & Buchert 2005;Li & Schwarz 2007), rendering the exactly homogeneous and isotropic FRW models insuffi-cient. 1 This is still an open area of research; see Räsänen (2011); Buchert & Räsänen (2012) for recent reviews.…”

“…'Fully gridded' data were used in which all data from one day are treated, after removal of day-night differences, as pertaining to the same map time and interpolated onto a regular (4"XlO") latitudelongitude grid. Further details of instrument performance are given by Ellis et al (1973) and Barnett et al (1975a), and details of the analysis method in Oxford University (1976). In addition daily analyses of the height of the 200 mb surface have been provided by the Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology in Melbourne.…”
