Crashworthiness Optimization Using Response Surface Method Based on Uniform Design

Abstract: The crash box of vehicle plays an important role in absorbing energy during collision. However, the crashworthiness optimization problem is nonlinear which means the relationship between the response and design variables is implicit. This paper constructed a response surface model instead of original model. Meanwhile, uniform design has been taken to select sampling points uniformly. Then PSO method was used to optimize the approximate model with high precision. Finally, the optimization results show that the … Show more

“…The reliability of the optimization result depends on the accuracy of the RSM, and this work uses the root mean square error (RMSE) and the correlation coefficient (R 2 ) to assess the accuracy of the RSM. [37][38][39] The expression of RMSE and R 2 can be written as…”

“…The approximate model is mainly based on experimental design and sample data. RSM could simulate the real function by fitting a response surface through a series of 'experiment' (Yoshino et al 2010). Assuming the response Y and independent variable X have the functionY = F (X), where X = [x 1 x 2 .…”
