Craniofacial Reconstruction Using Rational Cubic Ball Curves

Abstract: This paper proposes the reconstruction of craniofacial fracture using rational cubic Ball curve. The idea of choosing Ball curve is based on its robustness of computing efficiency over Bezier curve. The main steps are conversion of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (Dicom) images to binary images, boundary extraction and corner point detection, Ball curve fitting with genetic algorithm and final solution conversion to Dicom format. The last section illustrates a real case of craniofacial reconstru… Show more

“…For instance, the reconstruction of craniofacial fracture by using rational cubic Ball curve had been proposed in the literature. In that study, GA is used as an optimization algorithm to handle craniofacial reconstruction problem [15]. The finding shows the proposed interpolant work well for solving this problem.…”

“…The main difference between their scheme and the proposed scheme in this study is that we construct rational cubic Ball spline with quadratic denominator with one parameter. Thus the computation time will be less compared with the work of Majeed et al [3] ( Table 7). Besides that, there are different types of rational cubic Ball interpolant.…”

“…In [ 28 ] the continuity between two curve segments is parametric continuity C 1 while in current work the continuity between two curve segments is geometric continuity GC 1 as the geometric continuity is more flexible than parametric. We have used C 1 rational Ball curves with tangents at end points.…”
