Crane Safety Assessment Method Based on Entropy and Cumulative Prospect Theory

Abstract: Assessing the safety status of cranes is an important problem. To overcome the inaccuracies and misjudgments in such assessments, this work describes a safety assessment method for cranes that combines entropy and cumulative prospect theory. Firstly, the proposed method transforms the set of evaluation indices into an evaluation vector. Secondly, a decision matrix is then constructed from the evaluation vectors and evaluation standards, and an entropy-based technique is applied to calculate the index weights. … Show more

“…Fluid mechanics has been considered in various studies to address the dynamic characteristics and continuing processes in construction projects due to its flexibility and accuracy in fluid (uncertainty) simulations and quantitative predictions. In fact, this method has been effective for solving problems in diverse domains (Mishra, 2015;Seminara et al, 2020), such as traffic transportation (Lighthill and Whitham, 1955;Richards, 1956), ecology (Jones et al, 2018), supply chain inventory analysis (Kachani and Perakis, 2006), and manufacturing systems (Wiendahl et al, 2002;Efthymiou et al, 2009). These studies have provided insights into dynamic phenomena that exhibit characteristics similar to those of fluid mechanics.…”

“…FD analogies, such as Maxwell's, continue to be used in electromagnetics, whereas several similar analogies have been extended to other domains and now have been established in these areas. Vehicle traffic flow models are typically developed using FD principles (Lighthill and Whitham, 1955;Richards, 1956;Tosin and Zanella, 2019;Guo et al, 2020), and several traffic-related theories are analogous to fluid-related theories (Peng, 2013;Ma et al, 2018;Zhao et al, 2018). Pedestrian movement studies have also adopted FD analogies as a foundation for modeling (Qiu et al, 2018;Sun, 2018).…”

“…As a non-contact measuring method with high data acquisition efficiency and excellent automation, photogrammetry is an ideal technical solution for port hoisting machinery safety monitoring. However, the application of photogrammetry in the field of port hoisting machinery safety monitoring has always been limited by the complex working environment of the port, which makes it impossible to get photos taken at reasonable distance and angle and with high background discrimination, resulting in unsatisfactory accuracy of measurement results calculated by traditional algorithm [5,6,7] .In order to solve this problem, the author and his team members put forward "a weighted intersection point prediction algorithm for photogrammetry of port hoisting machinery" based on the multi-line intersection points characteristics of key points of port hoisting machinery [8]. By weighting intersection lines based on optical distortion, the method realizes the principle of high-precision prediction of key points and significantly improves the measurement accuracy of key nodes of port hoisting machinery.…”

“…However, their anti-swing methods only consider the situation that the load has zero initial state. [33][34][35][36] The safety problem of cranes is very important for the human coexistence environment. For instance, Chi and Caldas 37 established a set of safety rules based on three fundamental risks: (1) excessive work speeds, (2) access to dangerous areas, and (3) close proximity between objects, such as crane and workers.…”
