Cracking of Reinforced Recycled Concrete Slabs

Abstract: The results of an experimental investigation on cracking of fifteen reinforced recycled concrete slabs are presented in this paper. Five different recycled aggregates replacement percentages have been used for different mix design. First, the values of tensile strength, cylindrical compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of the concrete mixes have been determined. Then the deflection-load curve of the simply supported slabs have been obtained. The limit of the linear part of this curve determines the ex… Show more

“…Actually, the greater roughness of RA improves the aggregate interlocking, which produces an increase in tensile strength of concrete. As already shown in other research [49,55], the secant modulus of elasticity of concrete with RA is slightly lower than the one of NC. Compressive strength and secant modulus of elasticity in compression tests were performed, respectively, according to UNI EN 12390-3: 2019 [52] and UNI EN 12390-13: 2013 [53], while splitting tensile strength was obtained following UNI EN 12390-6: 2010 [54].…”

“…The analysis of the cracking behavior of these materials is important, and in addition to the visual analysis, there are methodologies to determine the cracking load from deflection-load curves in flexural tests [40]. The evolution of the elastic modulus over time is shown in Figure 8.…”

“…The evolution of the elastic modulus over time is shown in Figure 8. Among the mixes that use diabase aggregate, it is observed that SCC-DC-FA has the smallest elastic modulus (37 and 40 GPa at The analysis of the cracking behavior of these materials is important, and in addition to the visual analysis, there are methodologies to determine the cracking load from deflection-load curves in flexural tests [40].…”
