CR-NBEER: Cooperative-Relay Neighboring-Based Energy Efficient Routing Protocol for Marine Underwater Sensor Networks

Abstract: This paper proposes a Cooperative-Relay Neighboring-Based Energy-Efficient Routing (CR-NBEER) protocol with advanced relay optimization for MUSN. The utilization of the relay nodes, among all other sensor nodes, makes it possible to achieve node-to-node deployment. The proposed method focuses only on cooperation and relay optimization schemes. Both schemes have previously been implemented, and thus the proposed method represents the extended version of the Neighboring-Based Energy-Efficient Routing (NBEER) pro… Show more

“…18-20, respectively. Apart from the LEACH, the proposed APSO has also been evaluated and compared with three other senior protocols, which are NBEER [59], CR-NBEER [60], and CEER [61] routing protocols. From the expanded evaluations, it has further been observed and concluded that the proposed APSO performed better.…”

“…The key to this method is how to find the nearest node to the target node and use it as the next hop during the forwarding process. The energy-controlled routing protocol [38][39][40][41][42] primarily addresses the issue of overall energy balancing in a network, aiming to maximize the overall network lifetime while ensuring reliable data transmission. By efficiently distributing energy usage among network nodes, the protocol helps to prevent premature energy depletion in certain nodes, thus extending the overall network lifetime.…”

“…Hussain et al [70] proposed an approach that focuses specifically on cooperation and relay optimization schemes, presenting an extension of the Neighboring-Based Energy-Efficient Routing (NBEER) protocol. Performance evaluation considers path loss, end-toend delay, packet delivery ratio, and energy consumption.…”
