“…After 3 weeks of DSS removal, EVOO diets reduced significantly both COX-2 and iNOS expression versus standard diet, where these proteins were appreciably increased compared to sham group. These results are also consistent with other experimental models where, for example, olive oil inhibited COX-2 immunostaining in IL-10 knockout mice [27], endogenously synthesized n-3 PUFAs downregulated COX-2 expression in DSS-induced colitis in fat-1 mice [31] or n-3 PUFA-rich diet showed beneficial effect via inhibition of COX-2 and iNOS expression, among other inflammatory parameters, in TNBS-induced colitic rats [32].…”

“…The results are consistent with previous studies that reported the administration of fatty acids contained in fish oil have an inhibitory effect in mice induced colon cancer (Gravaghi et al, 2011). Other studies using 1,2-dimetilhidrazin (DMH) to induce rat colorectal cancer which resulted in decreasing of expression of iNOS colonic crypt epithelial cells and increase the apoptosis of crypt epithelial cells after administration of ω-3 PUFA (Jia et al, 2008).…”

“…Some literatures mentioned that fish oil containing unsaturated fatty acids could reduce the level of inflammation in inflammatory bowel diseases/IBD (Gravaghi et al, 2011;Al-Salihi et al, 2009). Fish oil can influence the responsible cells in inflammation reaction through variety of mechanism, such as interfering the lipid complex, lipoprotein, hormone, and responsible metabolite in inflammation reactions.…”

“…Clues that the fat-1 transgene has an anti-infl ammatory activity were also given by reports that brain COX-2 levels are reduced in 12-week-old Fat-1 mice ( 33 ). This dampening of the infl ammatory response was also associated with a benefi cial effect as observed in Fat-1 modeling pancreatitis and infl amed colon ( 54,55 ). Finally, the decrease in GFAP levels observed here in Fat-1 mice following MPTP lesion supports the hypothesis of an anti-infl ammatory role for the fat-1 transgene despite the absence of a clear neuroprotective effect.…”
