COVID-PIRO (Predisposition, Insult, Response, Organ Dysfunction) Score: A Reliable Predictor of Outcomes in COVID-19 Patients Admitted in Intensive Care Unit

Abstract: IntroductionTo measure the severity of sepsis and pneumonia in adult patients with coronavirus disease 2019 , the PIRO model (predisposition, insult, response, organ dysfunction) was adopted as a scoring system. In this study, the PIRO model was modified to classify the severity of pneumonia in adults and predict mortality risk infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), admitted to a tertiary intensive care unit (ICU) in central rural India. MethodThis prospective, observationa… Show more

“…Presently, many studies have been conducted to detect potent markers of severity for COVID-19 [16][17][18] and the effect of diabetes mellitus on COVID-19, leading to opportunistic infections [19]. However, there is a sparsity of data to determine important factors like zinc for COVID-19-associated opportunistic infection, such as mucormycosis, making the topic of this study important for public health.…”

“…During such times, carrying out simple serum ferritin test could help us understand the severity of COVID-19, its probable association with HRCT score and the related morbidity and mortality. [ 10 ] Hence, ferritin can prove pivotal in a rural setting.…”
