COVID-19 y escuela a distancia: viejas y nuevas desigualdades

Show more

“…Seven studies specifically addressed this family–child relationship since the sudden change in daily routines [ 11 , 57 ] and the responsibility assumed by families in taking up the teaching role within the home [ 24 , 48 , 64 ] have made dents in this relationship. Parents have reported feeling overwhelmed and distressed [ 12 , 18 ] by the situation, given their low qualification in this regard [ 27 , 37 , 51 , 56 , 63 ] and the need to continue working and carrying out household chores.…”

“…Nevertheless, the use of new technologies and the development of a virtual education, in which the relationships between educational institutions, families, and students must be very present, has become a new educational paradigm that is already far removed from the circumstantial situation originated by the pandemic. As a matter of fact, it has been currently implemented as a new educational model that brings to light the real resilient potential of the different educational systems, as well as its capacities to explore novel approaches and models that allow for the satisfaction of present needs [ 48 ].…”

“…The replacement of on‐site education by different forms of online schooling has laid bare the existence of a digital divide on three levels. First, there is evidence that a lack of internet connections and adequate devices hindered teachers from contacting many students during school closures in 2020 (Bonal & González, 2020 ; Jacovkis & Tarabini, 2021 ; Kuhfeld et al., 2020 ; OECD, 2021 ; Van Lancker & Parolin, 2020 ).…”

“…However, neither teachers nor families had access to the same skills or resources to design or follow distance learning. As Jacovkis and Tarabini ( 2021 ) state, while more than one third of schools with high percentages of vulnerable students faced significant difficulties in setting students up with distance learning, only 7.5% of middle‐class schools considered this to be difficult. The combination of a digital divide and teacher inexperience in providing high‐quality distance learning made it difficult to improve students’ learning opportunities (Kay et al., 2020 ).…”
