Abstract

The severe acute respiratory syndrome is caused by the new RNA virus known as coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-COV-2 can lead to clinical pictures ranging from asymptomatic infection to severe respiratory distress in children and newborns. It is known that newborns immune systems are not sufficiently developed for infectious agents. When it comes to the mother having COVID-19, those babies are in the high-risk group because of the close contact with the mother. Children of any age can get sick with COVID-19. However, most infected children do not become as severely ill as adults, and some may show no symptoms. The symptoms of COVID-19 in infants and children differ from the symptoms of COVID-19 in adults.It's also possible that children's immune systems interact with the virus differently than adult's immune systems. Babies do not overreact because they do not know the virus well enough. Adults however, become sick because their immune systems overreact to the virus, causing more damage to their bodies.
