COVID-19 Vaccination Uptake and Hesitancy in a National Sample of Australian Gay and Bisexual Men

Abstract: Minority groups may face additional barriers to vaccination. In April–June 2021, we assessed the level of COVID-19 vaccination and willingness to be vaccinated in a national, online survey of 1280 gay and bisexual men in Australia. “…Among PLWH, low willingness to accept vaccination were reported in Nigeria and Ethiopia (46.2%, and 33.7% respectively) [19,20]. However, our findings are consistent with those reported in studies conducted in middle, and high income countries, where moderate to high acceptability [15,16,18,30] (57%, 62%, 65, 70%, 72, and 80% respectively) were reported in China, India, Canada, Ireland, France, and Australia among PLWH [15][16][17][30][31][32]. The vigorous government of Uganda campaign to promote COVID-19 vaccination could explain the high acceptability [21,22].…”

“…We used means and proportions for descriptive statistics. Similar to previous studies, [20] , [23] , [24] , [38] , [39] , [40] , [41] our analysis only included the unvaccinated participants (660). A series of simple logistic regression models were used for bivariate comparisons to report the crude odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among unvaccinated PLHIV.…”
