“…HPV vaccination rates remain below Heathy People 2030 goal of 80% of adolescents aged 13–15 receiving the recommended doses and Alabama reflects some of the lowest HPV vaccination rates across the country with 40% of 13–17 year olds completing the series [ 13 , 15 , 16 ]. Reasons for suboptimal intake include negative media attention including the feminization of the vaccine and parental concerns about vaccine side effects due to misinformation about vaccination leading to harmful side effects (e.g., Guillain-Barre syndrome) [ 17 , 18 ]. Healthcare provider recommendations improve vaccine uptake, especially when conversations focus on cancer prevention, but many barriers can limit administration including discomfort discussing how HPV is sexually transmitted (when this issue arises), perceived parent hesitancy, and beliefs about vaccine side effects [ [19] , [20] , [21] , [22] ].…”

“…The pandemic has shown how robust information systems and reminder technologies can support vaccine uptake-a lesson equally applicable to HPV vaccination. Furthermore, the communication strategies applied through HPV vaccination campaigns, such as reframing the vaccine's purpose from preventing a sexually transmitted infection to preventing cancer, have provided valuable lessons for COVID-19 vaccination efforts [20,21]. Moreover, the integration of decision aids, which offer clarity on healthcare choices and align decisions with personal values [23], has been instrumental in HPV [24] and COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and uptake [25,26].…”
