COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Tests: Bibliometric Analysis of the Scientific Literature

Abstract: As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt health systems worldwide, conducting Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) at specified intervals has become an essential part of many people’s lives around the world. We identified and analyzed the academic literature on COVID-19 RAT. The Web of Science electronic database was queried on 6 July 2022 to find relevant publications. Publication and citation data were retrieved directly from the database. VOSviewer, a bibliometric software, was then used to relate these data to… Show more

“…The term map showed the recurring terms from the title and abstract of the analyzed publications. To improve visual clarity, the map showed terms appearing in at least 1% ( n = 8) of the publications only, a threshold commonly adopted by previous studies [ 18 , 19 , 20 ]. Each term is labeled a node, with the node size indicating the publication count, its color indicating the citations per publication (CPP), and the inter-node distance indicating their frequency of co-occurrence.…”

“…It also had the most link, which was 38. It had a shorter distance with the bubble of "wound healing", the second highest in terms of the number of occurrences, which indicated they had a larger number of co-occurrences (Yeung et al, 2022). The link line thickness directly reflects the terms' co- occurrence strength (Feng and Chen, 2020).…”

“…Researchers frequently make efforts to quantify the development of a scientific field, the significance of peer-reviewed academic publications, and authorship patterns. Scientometrics is an important tool that has been widely used to study and analyze the scientific literature [27][28][29][30][31][32]. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and frequent occurrences of new variants along with "long COVID" effects, such scientometric tools are providing meaningful insight and gaining importance for current and future research in the medical field.…”
