‏COVID-19 Quarantine Monitoring Based on Geofencing Technique

Abstract: Smartphone and satellite network coverage contributes to a number of useful applications that increase the comfort of everyday people's lives. Using the Global Positioning System (GPS) provided by the satellite, people can be tracked in real time at a specific location. When it comes to infectious diseases such as COVID-19, the most important measure to reduce its spread is to contain it. Quarantine is usually a solution and any tracking system can be employed to specify the location of the infected people. Ho… Show more

“…Wireless monitoring is inevitable in an isolation room. The most common method in Taiwan is the global system for mobile communications (GSM) signal of a smartphone through multiple base stations to determine the location of an individual ( 12 ), which offers advantages and limitations. The advantage is that the GSM signal uses off-the-shelf technology, only requiring a specific software program design, not additional hardware equipment.…”

“…A Geo-COVID approach is proposed in [ 14 ] based on a geofencing framework to manage and monitor the people’s movement using GPS location. In [ 15 ], a geofencing protection system is proposed for home quarantine and monitoring objectives, where GPS and GSM modules are used with a microcontroller-based system to be used as a bracelet. IoT and blockchain technology are used in [ 16 ] to collect and analyze the physiological and geographical data for quarantined people.…”

“…Then, an alerting system informs these persons with this state. However, the existing approaches for home quarantine [ 9 , 10 , 14 , 15 , 18 ] depend on the GPS parameters that do not work well and cannot be applied in indoor environments [ 19 ]. Furthermore, the offered solutions [ 11 , 15 , 16 ] are high-cost systems and require additional infrastructure.…”
