COVID-19 exposures and infection control among home care agencies

Abstract: Highlights Healthcare Agencies and their frontline caregivers were impacted by COVID-19 early in the pandemic. Caregivers have the ability to inadvertently spread COVID-19 if appropriate infection prevention and control policies are not implemented and followed. Healthcare Agencies need to be included in federal, state, and health system strategies for mitigating the spread of COVID-19.

“…Caregivers of patients with multimorbidity and frailty who live at home are experiencing increased burden and anxiety and need additional support in the COVID era (Cohen et al, 2020;Selman et al, 2020). These struggles include reduced access to in-home paid caregivers and fear that leaving the home for routine errands such as shopping will infect their loved ones (Cohen et al, 2020;Rowe et al, 2020). Palliative care teams are skilled at identifying caregiver burden, counseling caregivers, and locating formal supports for patients at home.…”
