“…One category of symptoms that became characteristic early in the first wave of the pandemic was alterations of smell and taste (Gerkin et al, 2021; Parma et al, 2020; Vargas‐Gandica et al, 2020); hereafter, “chemosensory dysfunctions.” A meta‐analysis of studies published between January and June of 2020 estimated that taste dysfunctions, specifically, affected around half of those infected during spring 2020 (Saniasiaya et al, 2021).
