“…Anatomic, physiologic, and immunologic changes during pregnancy are considered to pose a risk for severe COVID-19 infection and disease, as was previously experienced with the H1N1 pandemic [ 5 , 6 , 7 ]. Increased maternal oxygen demand, elevated diagram, and edema of the respiratory mucosa during pregnancy decrease the maternal tolerance of hypoxia [ 8 ]. Therefore, pregnant women could be more likely to develop a more severe respiratory status (in the case of a viral pneumonia, which happened in the outbreak of H1N1, SARS-CoV-1, and middle east respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV)) [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 7 , 8 , 9 ].…”

“…SARS-CoV-2, the cause of the rapidly spreading pandemic, affects every population worldwide. Pregnant women are generally more susceptible to infectious diseases due to physiological and mechanical changes in pregnancy [22,23]. Additionally, the physiological T-helper 2 system dominates during pregnancy in favor of the fetus, making the mother more vulnerable to viral infections [23,24].…”
