The COVID-19 pandemic is not only a medical emergency but also a business emergency that has created the need for organizations to be resilient and versatile in managing the impact of the pandemic on their business operations. At this time, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the most vulnerable to the economic disaster caused by the recent crisis, because these companies do not have the necessary resources to absorb losses. This research reviewed the impact of digital technologies on SMEs’ resilience during the pandemic, focusing on companies in developing countries. Based on the 96 SMEs surveyed across six developing countries, the study shows that digital technology has helped SMEs to survive the pandemic, assisting SMEs in becoming more robust and ensuring their survival. This research fills a significant research gap in the literature, highlighting the inherent challenges of SMEs in developing countries and their digital transformation strategies. This study also offers practical recommendations for SMEs, tech developers, and policymakers to invest more effort in putting new procedures in place to ensure the efficacy of digital technology.

The objective of this study is to investigate the impact that having a business plan and engaging in digital marketing have had on the resiliency of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in East Jakarta following the pandemic. The population that is the focus of this study is comprised of East Jakarta's 240,512 small and medium-sized businesses. Purposive sampling was used to collect data from these 140 participants to create the sample for this investigation. Processing of data utilizing the SEM (Structural Equation Model) approach with the Smart PLS (Partial Least Squares) tool version 4, which includes the Estimation Test, Evaluation Test, and Mediation Test of the SEM-PLS Model. In light of the results of the hypothesis test, one can reach the following conclusion: the Business Plan variable representing MSME resilience has an influence that is both positive and significant. The influence of digital marketing on the resilience of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises is positive but insignificant. Meanwhile, the impact of the business strategy on the resiliency of MSMEs is positive but not statistically significant when the intervening variable is digital marketing.

The study, which sought to find out the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to the business operations of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, and the lessons thereof, adopted the interpretive paradigm, a qualitative approach and a case study design. Data was collected from a sample of 30 purposively selected SME owners using electronic semi-structured and physically distributed questionnaires. Data were thematically analysed. The study found that the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic included restrictions on physical movements and face-to-face interaction; loss of revenue; failure to operate businesses in a disruptive environment and changes in consumption patterns. The lessons derived from the pandemic were that SMEs need to embrace technology and should be innovative and creative; the need for networking and the need to study the environment and adapt accordingly. The study thus concluded that despite the disruptions caused by the pandemics, there were lessons derived from the experiences. The implications provided by the study were that SMEs should acquire new technologies and new skills for doing business; seek guidance from mobile service providers; work in partnership with bigger companies so as to copy best practice; be creative and innovative and re-adjust strategies in order to adapt quickly. Policymakers should disseminate information to SMEs on the environmental challenges that they are likely to face. Article visualizations:<img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0953/a.php" alt="Hit counter" />
