Abstract:The caudal skeleton of platyfish visualised by histological staining. Alizarin red stains calcified bones and Alcian blue detects unmineralized bones and cartilage. The endoskeleton at the base of the fin displays a notable symmetrical pattern. A few principal rays are supported by epichordal bones, which is an unusual anatomical feature in teleosts.
