Coupled channels calculations of 11Be breakup

Abstract: Abstract. Recent measurements of the cross sections for the diffractive breakup of 11 Be on a light ( 12 C) target have been reported. These data cover a fraction of the final-state three-body phase space and cuts on these data exhibit resonant structures in the neutron-10 Be continuum. These breakup data provide a motivation to test the coupled discretised continuum channels method in the context of the spectroscopy of continuum states in 11 Be and similar neutron-rich systems near the dripline.

“…This single-particle picture has been extensively used in the literature to explain also reactions induced by this nucleus (see, for instance, Refs. [20,32,33]). However, there are also numerous experimental and theoretical findings that these low-lying states of 11 Be contain significant admixtures of core-excited components [12,[34][35][36].…”

“…A second bump was also observed at E x = 3.41 MeV, which was given a tentative assignment of 3/2 + , with a small contribution of the d 3/2 wave coupled to 10 Be(0 + ) and a larger contribution of the 10 Be(2 + ) ⊗ ν2s 1/2 configuration. As in previous analyses of this reaction [33,34], we use a two-body model of the projectile, 11 Be = 10 Be(g.s.) + n, and hence those states based on the core excited states are absent from our model space.…”
