Countermeasures on Heat Wave related Disasters Increasing due to Climate Change

Abstract

According to IPCC(Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the earth temperature is expected to increase 6.4 o C from global warming in the 21st and increase average summer temperatures and the frequency and intensity of heat wave. The heat wave of Europe in 2003 caused 35,000 deaths and economy losses of above 13 billion dollars. All countries of the world recognized the importance to response heat wave from 2003 event of Europe. Every country is developing warning system for heat wave response, establishing activities to heat wave plan. In this study we suggested effective methods for heat wave response in Korea through investigating heat wave damage and responses of abroad.Key words

Analysis of Occurrence Distribution and Synoptic Pattern of Future Heat Waves in Korea

“…이와 관련하여 전 세계적으로 온열질환 사망자수에 대한 연구 (Semenza et al, 1996;Nakai et al, 1999;Kysely and Huth, 2004;Tan et al, 2004;Choi et al, 2005) 가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 자연재해의 인명피해 에 대한 외국사례를 살펴보면, 2010년에 가장 많 은 사망자수를 발생시킨 아이티 지진 (222,570명) 다음으로 동일 해 러시아에서 발생한 폭염에 의한 사망자수(55,336명)가 그 해에 두 번째로 많았다 (Heo and Song, 2012). 국내에서도 1994년에 발생 한 폭염(33일 지속)으로 직접적 영향뿐만 아니라 간접적 영향까지 포함하여 3,027명이 사망하였다 (Heo and Song, 2012 (Kim et al, 2007a;Kim, 2008;Sheridan et al, 2012) (Choi et al, 2005;Kim et al, 2006;Kim et al, 2007b;Kim et al, 2008;Lee et al, 2010) (Bergeron, 1930;Kalkstein et al, 1996) (Sheridan, 2002;Kalkstein et al, 2011).…”
