The contemporary world is undergoing rapid transformations, leading to intricate challenges such as conflicts, frustration, and unhealthy competition. These complexities contribute to a value crisis within the social system, affecting personal values, family dynamics, and fostering maladjustment among adolescents. Against this backdrop, the present research delves into the guidance needs of secondary school students in Shimla city. The study uses a descriptive research design, employing the Guidance Need Inventory (GNI) for data collection. The study encompasses the entire student population of arts and science streams of Government Senior Secondary Schools operating in Shimla city, with a sample size of 240 students selected through a simple random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics reveal uniformly high levels of guidance needs across all areas for all students. Intriguingly, the results indicate that guidance needs do not significantly differ based on gender and academic stream, except for the sociological part in relation to their stream. The findings underscore the pressing need for guidance programs within schools, emphasizing the importance of employing trained professionals to address the diverse and high-level guidance needs of students. In light of the ever-evolving challenges in today’s society, the study contributes valuable insights into crafting targeted interventions that can positively impact the physical, social, psychological, educational, and vocational development of students, fostering their overall efficiency and well-being.

The problems faced by students are currently increasingly complex with the uncontrollable developments of the times and the impact caused by the co-19 pandemic. One solution that can be applied is the use of self-help online reality counseling to help overcome student problems, however, counselors have low competence in the development and application of self-help online reality counseling. Low competence both in terms of understanding and application is shown by service partners who have never implemented self-help-based counseling services for students. Therefore, the implementation of this service provides training in the application of self-help online-based reality counseling to counselors in Malang Raya. The training activity took place in the D3 FIP UM hall with the Malang Raya High School MGBK partner. The results of training on the application of self-help online reality counseling show that in terms of understanding, counselors experience a change from low to moderate to high. Counselors have the ability of counselors to design and use online reality counseling self-help applications.

“…Based on the scope of the comprehensive evaluation of the counseling program using the standards in the Performance-Based Professional School Counselor Evaluation Guidelines on the third aspect of the fifth criterion, "Professional school counselors advise students individually and in groups whose needs and problems are identified and require assistance" which are divided into (a) dissemination of information on extension programs; (b) provide individual and group counseling services according to theory according to school needs; (c) implementation of counseling services according to student needs; and (d) can help students solve problems. Counselors become adaptive individuals to changes that exist, even though they occur so quickly. One of them is that the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the implementation of the counseling program in schools. The implementation of the counseling program in schools is expected to be able to accommodate the needs of students to be able to solve complex problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is evaluation research with a discrepancy evaluation model approach. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the counseling program in schools based on predetermined standards. The implementation of this research is an evaluation with the research population being teacher guidance and counseling at the junior high school level in Malang Regency with a focus on implementing counseling programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research instrument is based on performance-based professional teacher evaluation guidelines on the third aspect of the fifth criterion. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively and percentages to determine the implementation of the counseling program during the pandemic. The results show that counselors can adapt well to changes due to the covid-19 pandemic. This condition is indicated by the counselor starting to use technology in counseling (cybercounseling) to overcome the problems that occur so that they can carry out the program on a scheduled and limited basis in accordance with the health protocol rules. The follow-up results are recommendations to counselors for the implementation of future counseling programs.
