Coumarins: The Antimicrobial agents

Abstract: Emergence of resistance by bacterial and fungal stains towards existing antimicrobial agents is one of the major problem as well as motivation to synthesize a new class of antimicrobial agents possessing potent activity compared to commonly used therapy. Coumarin is the heterocyclic compound formed from benzene and pyrone ring containing oxygen and its derivatives are of wide awareness because of their diverse biological activity and clinical applications, they are remarkably effective compounds both with resp… Show more

“…Compound I is crystallized in a monoclinic centrosymmetric space group P2 1 In this work, theoretical methods used to calculate the electric parameters were the Møller-Plesset Perturbation Theory (MP2) (dipole moment and linear polarizability) and the Density Functional Theory (DFT) at level CAM − B3LYP (for the first hyperpolarizability (solvent medium) and second hyperpolarizability (crystal and solvent medium)). The 6 − 311 + G(d) basis set was used for all atoms.…”

“…In the SM method, the atoms that form the surrounding molecules of the compounds are treated as point charges, since the interactions between molecules have a dominant electrostatic nature, taking into account long-range electrostatic effects [28,29]. Another alternative model to estimate χ (1) and χ (2) was proposed by Seidler and Champagne [30][31][32][33][34][35] with very good results.…”

“…Several oxygen‐containing heterocyclic structures such as coumarin derivatives were associated with the benzopyrone family. Coumarin compounds contributed an extended therapeutic outline with a wide range of biological activities, which are naturally plant‐derived or synthetically obtained substances . Almost all coumarin derivatives have been considered as the key subunits for different kinds of effective drug candidates in terms of their dynamic pharmacological activities such as anti‐inflammatory , antitubercular , anti‐human immunodeficiency virus , antioxidant , anticoagulant , anticancer , and antiviral .…”

“…Some of chromene skeleton are well established as antimicrobial agents such as Novobiocin and Chlorobiocin. [6] Recently, chromene derivatives have great interesting due to their potential application such as anti-HIV, [7] antitubercular, [8] antioxidant, [9] anticancer, [10] cytotoxic agents, [11] antidyslipidemic agent, [12] antileishmanial, [13] anti-inflammatory agents. [14] Diazo compounds showed many valuable medicinal and pharmaceutical activities such as inhibition of RNA, DNA and carcinogenesis, protein synthesis and nitrogen fixation.…”
