Could Weaning Remodel the Oral Microbiota Composition in Donkeys? An Exploratory Study

Abstract: As the initiation point of digestion, the oral microbiome is important in maintaining oral and systemic health. However, the composition of oral microbial communities and the influence of weaning on the oral microbiota of donkey foals remains poorly characterized. The present study used buccal swab samples to determine the changes in oral microbial communities occurring at the time of weaning. A total of 20 oral swab samples were collected from two groups: preweaning donkey foals (PreW group, n = 10) and postw… Show more

“…The overall foaling alive rate of Jennies in the donkey original breeding farms was 83.3%, which is higher than those reported in southern Sudan (65–70%) ( 26 ). Weaning is generally one of the most essential events in the early life of donkey foals ( 27 ). Our survey also compared the weaning age of donkey foals among different donkey original breeding farms, and the provincial and national donkey original breeding farms had the lower weaning age than self-own donkey farms.…”

“…All integrals and the SA-CASSCF reference wave functions were computed using the PYSCF package. 99 In addition to PYSCF, PRISM was interfaced with SOCUTILS, 100 which provided the matrix elements of DKH1 Hamiltonian for the DKH1-QDNEVPT2 calculations. The DKH2 Hamiltonian matrix elements used in DKH2-QDNEVPT2 were implemented in a local version of SOCUTILS.…”

“…The lesions are not the cause of the disease; they are just factors that contribute to the multifactorial nature of the disease. The physiological composition of the microbiome of the oral cavity in companion and farm animals has been determined [55][56][57]. The oral cavity of cattle showed 395 types of bacteria, and in sheep 428 types [24,25].…”
