“…There are only few cases reported in the literature. These have been previously reported in gymnasts[1], shotputter [2], and a badminton player[3]. In a review of literature a stress fracture of the scaphoid has not been reported in a cricketer.…”

“…Less common mechanisms of injury include forced palmar flexion of the wrist (Ritchie and Munter, 1999), and axial loading of the wrist with the wrist in a flexed position, as occurs when punching (Horii et al, 1994). Other unusual mechanisms of injury include the application of rigid handcuffs (Ball et al, 2008), and playing a 'smash' shot in a game of badminton (Brutus and Chahidi, 2004). 'Test your strength' punch-bag machine were once only seen in amusement parks and, until the last few years, all the scaphoid fractures that we saw with this mechanism of injury were attributable to a machine found on Skegness pier.…”

“…Stress fracture of the scaphoid is rare. (2)(3)(4)(5) Most reported cases are of gymnasts who repeatedly exert large amounts of force on their wrists. (4)(5)(6)(7) Patients usually complain of longstanding wrist pain that may intensify over time before they eventually seek medical opinion.…”

“…Brutus and Chahidi (3) reported an unusual case of scaphoid stress fracture in a badminton player who experienced a sudden onset of pain, in contrast to the gradual onset of pain in stress fracture. Unlike in gymnasts, the mechanism of injury in this case was most likely repeated flexion and extension of the wrist, as loading forces in the wrist are unlikely in badminton.…”
