“…While previous studies have reported reduced efficacy of neonicotinoids to manage A. gossypii, [23][24][25][26][27][46][47][48] this is the first study to quantify imidacloprid resistance in the USA and examine the effect of landscape composition on observed LC 50 values. The results from this study confirmed a decrease in the susceptibility of A. gossypii to imidacloprid, which was more prevalent in cotton-dominated landscapes, and support the hypothesis that stronger selection for resistance occurs in landscapes dominated by a primary host crop that receives multiple applications of toxins with the same mode of action.…”

“…In recent years, there have been reports of reduced efficacy of imidacloprid to manage A. gossypii in Alabama (Jacobson, personal communication). Previous field experiments conducted in the mid-south showed reduced efficacy of several neonicotinoid active ingredients for managing A. gossypii, [23][24][25][26] but thiamethoxam was the only neonicotinoid active ingredient A. gossypii was reported to be resistant to at that time. 27 A. gossypii has a long history of insecticide resistance in productions systems where chemical control methods are frequently used.…”
