Costly melanin ornaments: the importance of taxon?

Abstract: Summary 1.Experimental work in vertebrates shows that different forms of coloration -particularly carotenoid-based vs melanin-based ornaments -are differentially sensitive to stressors such as diet manipulations and parasitic infections.
