“…In line with systematic literature reviews, 25,28,29 we also found a wide range of costs and costing approaches for similar interventions 14,18,20,21 (Table 5 ). In addition, although our estimates for Brazil, Ecuador (CPSC) and Uruguay are within those ranges, the cost estimates for Colombia and Mexico are considerably higher due to the costs of installing LLINs using metallic frames, which none of the previous studies have done.…”

“…Resource items were classified following the cost components proposed in the literature 25,26 and previous cost analysis of similar interventions. 18 Thus, we classified first on recurrent costs (personnel, consumables, and other recurrent costs) and capital costs.…”

“…The comparability of the reviewed studies was restricted due to variations in the perspective taken, what cost items were included, as well as how the results were reported [39] . To improve the comparability of different studies, guidelines for estimating dengue-related costs have been proposed 39 , 47 . It would also be beneficial if future studies clearly report the exchange rates used, the year of the prices, and specifically state the approach used to adjust for inflation [48] .…”

“…The indirect costs are those associated with the loss in productivity from illness and death [ 103 ]. A robust assessment of the economic burden helps to i) identify information gaps, research needs, and refinements to the national statistical reporting systems; ii) argue that policies on dengue control and prevention should be given a high priority on the public health policy agenda; and iii) provide a baseline measure to determine the cost effectiveness of dengue policies and programs [ 104 ]. However, few studies have assessed the economic burden of dengue [ 105 ].…”
