Cost vs. safety: A novel design for tornado proof homes

Abstract: Tornadoes are dangerous and destructive weather phenomena. The strongest category of tornadoes on the enhanced Fujita and TORRO scales is responsible for 75% of property destruction and deaths across the globe. These issues highlight the need for new design practices aimed at producing tornado proof homes in particular 3D CAD models in tornado prone zones at current climatic scenarios. Previous studies were entirely based on traditional slants and failed to offer a reliable tornado proof home, other than small… Show more

“…Kantamaneni's [43] basic methodological concept has been adopted for the current study to assess and propose the costs and new designs for Flats vs. Mid-Terrace housing via 2 PA ( Figure 3). This methodology contains two important phases: Path One (P1) and Path Two (P2).…”

“…Most of the academic literature is constructed from technical, laboratory results as well as bathymetry, and spatial analysis applying numerical models by various researchers. However, research context and assessment criteria are different for this study and accordingly, Kantamaneni et al (2017) formulation concept of 2-path analysis (Two Path Analysis) (Fig. 2) has been adapted for the current study to evaluate both science and social science elements.…”

“…In South Africa, tornadoes are the recurring phenomena (Blamey, Middleton, Lennard, & Reason, 2017;Fauchereau, Trzaska, Rouault, & Richard, 2003;Goliger & Milford, 1998;Kantamaneni, Alrashed, & Phillips, 2017) with an average of three tornadoes per year (Goliger & Milford, 1998). Mostly, tornadoes occur over eastern South Africa and they have a potential to severe damages and even loss of lives (Reason, 2017).…”
