Cost-effectiveness and cost-utility evaluation of individual vs. group transdiagnostic psychological treatment for emotional disorders in primary care (PsicAP-Costs): a multicentre randomized controlled trial protocol

Abstract: Background Emotional disorders are common, and they have become more prevalent since the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to a high attendance burden at the specialized level, most emotional disorders in Spain are treated in primary care, where they are usually misdiagnosed and treated using psychotropic drugs. This contributes to perpetuate their illness and increase health care costs. Following the IAPT programme and the transdiagnostic approach, the PsicAP project developed a brief group transdiagnost… Show more

“…To our knowledge, very few studies have assessed the cost-effectiveness of group tCBT. 29,31,56 In the current study, the ICER adjusting for potential baseline confounders was $6,581/QALY in the intention-to-treat analysis, which was similar to the ICER of $6,642/QALY observed in the complete case analysis. These estimates are similar to those reported on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of CBT for anxiety disorders.…”

“…Because of the impact of resilience on psychological and physical health, and because it can be improved [ 78 ], resilience deserves greater attention in MS care. Support groups have proven especially effective at resilience-building [ 78 , 79 , 80 , 81 ], and they remain some of the most accessible and cost-efficient tools for mental health improvement [ 82 ].…”

“…Because the studies included in our meta-analysis all followed a format for group interventions, it seems justified to suggest that healthcare providers should consider, as a matter of policy, whether drama-based therapies are offered in group or individual formats. This may help optimize the allocation of health system resources and unblock today's long waiting lists (Aguilera-Martín et al, 2022; Uttley et al, 2015).…”
