Cost effective nitrogen removal – Novel control strategies

Abstract: The anammox process, used to remove nitrogen from wastewaters is conside red a promising approach due to its advantages over traditional processes. The current study emphasizes on the cost effective nitrogen removal from the sidestream effl uent of anaerobic digester with partial nitration (PN) and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process for the municipal wastewater treatment plant. The main objective of this study was to model a cost effective strategy for setting up a lab-scale sequencing batch reacto… Show more

“…Aeration was the operational parameter which was altered the most during our study to achieve the desired cost-effective efficiency. 20 It was changed by manipulating the airflow rate (Q air ), which directly changes the overall oxygen loading to the system. It was also changed by altering the number of subcycles from aerated to nonaerated conditions and vice versa and by changing the duration of the aerated and nonaerated phases.…”
