“…31,46 Traditionally, forging dies are subjected to different thermo-chemical treatments, mostly to nitriding in order to improve their wear resistance and lifetime. 55 However, due to the very high contact temperatures, all these treatments have only a limited effect. 46 On the other hand, investigations with hard coatings, including TiN, TiCN, CrN, TiB 2 , etc., show very promising results.…”

“…Surface engineering techniques have been used to extend die life, such as nitrocarburizing, ion nitriding, surfacing welding, PVD, CVD, and so on (Lin, 2006). Bayramoglu al-so studied different surface coating techniques, such as nitriding, single layer AlTiN surface coating, multilayer TOKTEK surface coating and weld overlay surface coating, and found out that weld overlay coated die possessed the highest service life (Bayramoglu, 2008). The selection of surfacing electrode has a great influence on weld overlay coating.…”

“…Meanwhile, damaged die is complex and difficult to analyse because of the mutual interactions between the factors involved in the mechanism of hot forming [2]. Bayramoglu et al [3] have investigated the effect of die coating on die life. The performance of dies has been evaluated on the basis of the ratio of expenses on dies over the number of the products that can be produced in a real production line.…”
