“…Other advantages of PKT include better quality of life, a favorable effect on growth and cognitive development and reduced long-term costs. 13,14,24,25 Other outcomes have been studied to determine the benefits of PKT. Sinha and Marks 26 showed improved chronic kidney disease (CKD) parameters among PKT when compared with non-PKT, including hypertension, acidosis, anemia, hyperphosphatemia, and lower use of CKD medications.…”

“…This potential benefit is thought to be the result of avoiding adverse effects of long-term dialysis, [10][11][12] surgical procedures related to dialysis, as well as the higher cost associated with dialysis. 13,14 Other authors believe that this association actually reflects a selection of patients who are able to undergo PKT (higher socioeconomic status, more social supports, potentially better adherence posttransplant, diseases less likely to recur, lead time bias) rather than a true effect of PKT.…”

“…A recent retrospective analysis of children undergoing conventional hemodialysis showed mean monthly cost estimates of $3,500, adding up to $87,000 in 40 months. For children who have undergone kidney transplantation, mean monthly costs were estimated at $1,900, adding up to $48,000 in 50 months ( 21 ). The 2021 United States Renal Data System (USRDS) annual report provides information on spending associated with pre-dialysis care.…”

“…La enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) se encuentra entre las primeras 10 causas de mortalidad general en México y ocupa la octava causa de defunción en los varones en edad productiva y la sexta en las mujeres de 20 a 59 años 1,2 . Está considerada una enfermedad catastrófica debido al número creciente de casos, los altos costos de inversión 3,4 , los recursos de infraestructura y humanos limitados, la detección tardía y las altas tasas de morbilidad y mortalidad en los programas de sustitución 5 .…”
