“…Microbiological and clinical information specifically concerning C. striatum infections is scarce. Previously, there have been several case reports (4,6,8,11,19,21,23), and two series (25,31) have been described, whereby three and six cases, respectively, of C. striatum infections were reported. Personto-person transmission of C. striatum in intensive care units has also been described, but limited information on the clinical charts of these patients was presented (19).…”

“…11 A fatal C. striatum pleuropulmonary infection occurred in a 79-year-old man with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and the organism was isolated from blood cultures, sputum, and pleural fluid. Between 1980 and 1993, there were several additional cases of C. striatum infection reported, including pulmonary abscess and empyema in a 22-year-old intubated patient, 12 sepsis in a neutropenic patient, 13 pneumonia in an elderly gentleman with chronic lung disease 14 and keratitis. 15 Subsequent reports have supported the role of C. striatum as an emerging pathogen in individuals with impaired immunity or with medical devices and in those with breaks in skin integrity.…”
