CORROSION RESISTANCE OF TANTALUM: Applications in the Chemical Industry

Abstract: Tantalum has a resistance to aqueous corrosion that may be compared closely with that of glass. The principal use of the metal is in the construction of chemical plant where its excellent corrosion‐resistant properties have assured a place for it in special applications, particularly where corrosion resistance needs to be combined with a high degree of heat transfer. This sphere of application is expanding rapidly.

“…So, it can be understood that the environmental factors contain two parts, one is the meteorological factors which determine the formation and hold time of the metal surface liquid film, the other is pollutant factors which affect the concentration of the surface electrolyte. The meteorological factors and the pollutant factors needed in this paper are list in Table 1 [13].…”

“…The chemical industry, however, is largely concerned with corrosion problems, many of which can be avoided by substituting tantalum for other materials of construction (13,22). Further progress in corrosion technology disclosed that hydrogen embrittlement of tantalum in HC1 at 190°C.…”
