Corrosion of steel gas pipe under stray current from electro-osmotic pulse water-proof system

Abstract: The electro-osmotic pulse (EOP) systems are widely used for damp-proofing the basements of buildings. However, the cathode of EOP systems will produce stray current interference, posing risks of electrochemical corrosion to the buried steel pipe. This paper introduces a series of on-site tests and numerical simulations conducted in a townhouse alley equipped with EOP systems. The corrosion risk produced by EOP was evaluated and corrosion mitigation measurements were discussed. The results show that the EOP sys… Show more

“…Corrosion is an electrochemical reaction on the metallic surface enhanced by environmental factors like moisture, oxygen, and acids. Metallic corrosion attracts significant attention from scientists and technologists worldwide to avoid substantial economic losses caused due to steel corrosion 2–4 . Sulfuric acid is used in several industrial processes to remove undesirable scales and rust, which trigger the corrosion of pure metals and alloys.…”

“…Metallic corrosion attracts significant attention from scientists and technologists worldwide to avoid substantial economic losses caused due to steel corrosion. [2][3][4] Sulfuric acid is used in several industrial processes to remove undesirable scales and rust, which trigger the corrosion of pure metals and alloys. Essential mineral acids like HCl and H 2 SO 4 employ in various applications, like water treatment, well acidizing, acid pickling, and chemical cleaning.…”
